On June 30, 2024, Taitung's Jinlun recorded a high temperature of 41 degrees, breaking this year's record. Taimali in Taitung followed with 39.6 degrees, and Shizi in Taipei also hit 39.1 degrees. The Central Weather Bureau attributed the soaring temperatures to the foehn wind in Taitung. The heatwave is expected to continue for the next week across Taiwan, with potential afternoon thunderstorms. Extreme heat is anticipated to decrease after July 6, but temperatures above 30 degrees will persist. Today's high temperature alert covers most areas except Hsinchu City in the western region.
