South Florida has been hit by record rainfall, leading Governor Ron DeSantis to declare a state of emergency for several counties, including Miami-Dade and Broward. The downpours have disrupted flights, caused flooding on the I-95 freeway, and set daily rainfall records. More heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecasted, and as much as 6 more inches of rain may fall through late Thursday, with a 20% chance of the showers strengthening into the Atlantic's first tropical storm. This extreme weather is attributed to a low-pressure system in the area and is expected to continue into the weekend, marking an active start to the Atlantic hurricane season.
