Red Candle's Evolution: Reviving Early Japanese Anime Style with Hakka Roundhouses and Dunhuang Caves in the World of 'Dao Punk'

Reported about 1 year ago

Red Candle Games released the new game 'The 9th Day' in late May, presenting an Eastern sci-fi 'Dao Punk' world with early Japanese anime style and transforming ancient mythical characters called 'Sun People'. Despite facing challenges in gameplay design during the first year of development, the visual style of 'The 9th Day' was already established, aiming to recreate the anime aesthetics of the 1980s and 90s with intricate line art resembling 'Akira'. The game's scenes feature imaginative locations like the futuristic 'Energy Well', Hakka Roundhouses, and Dunhuang Caves-inspired areas with humanoid cat-like 'Sun People'. Character designs draw inspiration from ancient myths, with details left to the lead artist's imagination, including the popular boss character 'Butterfly' based on a cosmetics salesperson.
