Reduce Plastic in Markets by Bringing Your Own Bag When Shopping for Vegetables

Reported 12 months ago

On July 2, 2024, the Environmental Protection Administration's Resource Circulation Department, the Taipei City Government Environmental Protection Bureau, and the Nanmen Market jointly organized the 'Buy Vegetables with Your Own Bag' campaign to reduce single-use plastic. This nationwide effort involves 47 markets across 22 counties and cities, aiming to reduce around 65 million plastic bags. The initiative encourages market vendors to ask customers if they need plastic bags, while shoppers are urged to bring their own eco-friendly bags, consolidate vegetables in one bag, and avoid taking a bag at every stall. Measures include setting up bag recycling stations, providing shopping carts, and vendors informing customers of the bag policy, aiming to reduce plastic waste in markets and promote environmental sustainability.
