Travelers faced large crowds and flight delays on the busiest day of the 2024 Memorial Day weekend, with over 6,000 U.S. flights delayed and about 200 canceled by early evening on the East Coast. Highways also experienced delays, with a prediction of nearly 3 million people passing through airport checkpoints on Friday. Despite concerns about the economy, Americans were still eager to travel for the holiday weekend, with 43.8 million people expected to travel at least 50 miles from home between Thursday and Monday.
