Renowned Taiwanese mountaineer Chang Yuanzhi, who had previously attempted to summit the world's second-highest peak, K2, was reported to have fallen to his death while climbing Blanc Peak. Chang, aged 36, fell from the north face of the south needle of Blanc Peak. The tragic incident occurred in snowy and non-technical terrain. The climbing community mourned Chang's passing, with fellow climbers expressing their condolences and memories of his passion for mountaineering. Chang had previously attempted a no-oxygen climb of K2 in 2019 but was forced to turn back due to poor snow conditions near the summit.
