Many people are now searching for rental properties on Facebook groups but need to be cautious of scams. A woman in Kaohsiung, Chen, was tricked into paying a 30,000 deposit to see a house in advance, only to realize it was a scam. The fake landlord claimed to need to return home for the Dragon Boat Festival and couldn't show the house, providing a fake bank transaction screenshot. Chen realized she was scammed when the money never arrived, and the landlord tried to obtain more personal information for further deceit. The rental property turned out to be non-existent, with stolen images and details misrepresenting the real estate market.
