In order to fulfill his father's expectations, Gao Weize, an ER director, left his medical career to return home and take over a nearly century-old traditional pastry shop in Yunlin, Taiwan. Gao introduced bite-sized traditional pastries to target the gift market and adapted recipes to reduce sugar and oil content, launching popular items like mini mooncakes and egg yolk pastries. Despite declining marriage rates and competition from Western-style cakes, Gao's efforts saved the family business, High Xiangzhen Pastry Shop, renowned for its traditional pastries like winter melon cakes, and serving as a local favorite for weddings and gifts.
