On May 26, 2024, two senior firefighters from the Jingshan Brigade of the Hsinchu Fire Department died in the line of duty during a residential fire response. Despite having professional equipment and following disaster rescue norms, there have been 33 firefighter deaths in the past decade in Taiwan, all occurring during duty at fires or gas explosions. Challenges in firefighting manpower and regulatory management are highlighted, with issues such as inadequate personnel due to a lack of recruitment and balanced staffing, leading to challenges in disaster response. Efforts to address these issues include implementing new shift schedules for better rest, expanding ambulance training, and technological advancements.
