Residents in Binjiang Accuse Low-priced Land Acquisition! Councilor Criticizes 'Benefiting Corporations at the Expense of People' and Taipei City Government Responds

Reported 8 months ago

On June 18, 2024, Taipei City under Mayor Ko Wen-je initiated land acquisition near the Binjiang Sewage Treatment Plant for tree planting, provoking criticism from Councilor Lin Liang-jun for benefiting corporations and harming residents. Residents and Councilor Lin Liang-jun accused the city government of acquiring land at lower prices compared to the Aviation Bureau's acquisition seven years ago, neglecting house evaluations, and planning to plant trees on acquired land, leaving residents homeless. The current Mayor, Chiang Wan-an, continued this plan after taking office and obtained approval for compulsory acquisition from the Ministry of the Interior, leading to residents expressing dissatisfaction and urging the withdrawal of acquisition notices. The City Government clarified that the current land acquisition scope and pricing differed from previous acquisitions, with fair consideration for landowners' rights and no instances of underpriced acquisitions. Concerning the tree planting aspect, residents received preliminary sketches indicating different plans than planting trees, which now include electricity receiving rooms and sludge digestion facilities according to the current blueprint.
