According to statistics released by the Ministry of Health yesterday, cancer has been the leading cause of death for 42 consecutive years, with an average of 1 person dying every 9 minutes and 53 seconds due to cancer, faster than the previous year by 14 seconds. Dr. Su Yifeng pointed out that among the top ten causes of death, four are related to respiratory diseases, emphasizing that it has become a significant issue that needs to be addressed urgently due to air pollution. The statistics for the top ten causes of death in Taiwan in 2023 were malignancies, heart diseases, pneumonia, cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, severe acute respiratory syndrome, hypertension-related diseases, accidental injuries, chronic lower respiratory diseases, and nephritis and nephrotic syndrome.
