After China's State Council published the '22 Measures for Punishing Taiwan Independence' on June 26, 2024, discussions arose regarding the possibility of extraditing individuals from abroad to China through a mechanism. The Chinese State Council did not deny this approach, emphasizing that they would 'pursue according to the law.' In response to accusations from Potter King that inviting Taiwanese internet celebrities to film in China is part of a cultural warfare strategy, the Chinese side sarcastically welcomed Potter King to visit again. Potter King replied on social media, saying that the State Council wanted to invite him to a feast. The State Council spokesperson stated that if 'Taiwan independence hardliners' voluntarily abandon their separatist positions in accordance with relevant regulations, they may not be held criminally responsible. However, experts cautioned that with 65 countries having judicial cooperation agreements with China, there are concerns about extradition to China. Amid escalating tensions and official interactions between mainland China and Taiwan hitting a low point, there is increasing caution in people-to-people exchanges. The Chinese State Council's spokesperson responded to Potter King's accusation that inviting Taiwanese internet celebrities to China for filming is part of cultural warfare, stating that if the individual tarnishes the image or intimidates others, the people on both sides of the strait would not support it. As the 35th Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan and Golden Horse Awards nominations approach, the Chinese side mentioned being happy to see exchanges between artists from both sides, yet the participation of mainland Chinese artists in award ceremonies where sensitive cross-strait issues are discussed has declined significantly in recent years.
