A retired woman in Linkou district, New Taipei City, lost 1.2 million after being deceived into an investment group promising to offer a 50% discount on purchasing TSMC treasury stocks through fraudulent Facebook advertisements. The woman, Lin, aged 70, realized she was a victim of fraud when attempting to withdraw her supposed profits of over 3 million and was asked to pay 810,000 as handling fees, leading the police to set up a sting operation resulting in the arrest of a 19-year-old accomplice. Lin was advised by the police to trick the scam group into a meeting, aiding in the arrest.
