Retired Woman Scammed out of Million | Police Ambush Convenience Store, Successfully Arrest Fraud Driver

Reported 8 months ago

Chen, a 68-year-old woman, fell victim to an investment scam after joining an online group where a 'teacher' analyzed the stock market daily and convinced her to download an app and invest a total of NT$1.13 million. The fraud group prevented her from withdrawing profits, leading her to realize the scam and report it to the police. Working with the victim, the police arranged a meeting to invest an additional NT$1 million, resulting in the arrest of the fraud driver and accomplice at a convenience store in Sanzhong District. The police seized various items including identification documents, cash, drugs, and mobile phones, and the suspects were detained for further investigation on charges of fraud, money laundering, and drug-related crimes. This highlights the common 'investment scam' tactic where fraudsters use economic topics to deceive victims, emphasizing the importance of legitimate investment channels and avoiding suspicious online links to prevent falling for scams.
