Reuters Events: CSX CEO announces that Baltimore coal exports will be fully resumed this week.

Reported 7 months ago

CSX is set to fully resume coal export operations at the Port of Baltimore this week after clearing a deep channel obstruction, according to the railroad's CEO. The first large ship is scheduled to be loaded at the Curtis Bay coal terminal on Saturday, marking a return to normal coal operations following a period of loading on smaller ships due to the obstruction. Baltimore accounted for 28% of coal exports in 2023, and the resumption of operations comes after a recent incident involving a container ship that caused a bridge collapse. The U.S. Energy Information Administration revised its 2024 coal export forecast upwards based on the progress in resuming trade via Baltimore.
