RIMPAC 2024: US Reveals Air-Launched Standard Missile Six with Range Exceeding 400 km for the First Time

Reported 12 months ago

The 2024 Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) in Hawaii includes 29 countries with 40 surface ships, 150 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel. The US Navy unveiled the air-launched version of the Standard Missile Six (RIM-174 ERAM) with a possible range exceeding 400 km, seen mounted on a VFA-192 squadron's F/A-18E Super Hornet during this exercise. This missile, using X-band receivers for guidance and capable of being launched from the air, increases range significantly. The move is in response to the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force introducing long-range air-to-air weapons, surpassing current US Navy systems.
