Rise in Fatty Liver Cases Among Students; Nearly Half of Adults Suffer from Metabolic Abnormalities in Fatty Liver

Reported 12 months ago

Data reveals a rising trend in the number of people suffering from metabolic abnormalities in fatty liver. Taiwan's first Asia-Pacific Liver Research Society Fatty Liver Symposium in Kaohsiung brought together close to a hundred experts from 14 countries to discuss the complexities of Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD). The vice president of National Sun Yat-sen University, Yu Ming-lung, highlighted the increasing rates of fatty liver among adults over 40 years old, where 40% to 50% are affected, and the number of students with fatty liver is also on the rise. It was emphasized that while mild fatty liver may aid in clearing hepatitis B, metabolic abnormalities exacerbate liver diseases, potentially leading to liver complications like cirrhosis and cancer. Regular ultrasound screenings and lifestyle changes, including weight loss, are recommended for early detection and prevention of fatty liver.
