On June 19, 2024, the editorial center for Brand Point reported that scams have caused significant grievances among the public. Legislator Liao Wei-Xiang recently questioned the surge in scam cases, with the latest police statistics on June 6 showing 37,823 fraud cases in 112 years, an increase of 8,314 cases from the previous year. The monetary amounts involved have also increased dramatically, reaching a staggering 88 billion last year, marking a new high. Liao raised concerns about the involvement of a few public servants and elites in scam activities, potentially turning a team fighting against scams into one perpetuating them. Liao urged the government, particularly Prime Minister Chu, to be vigilant and address the issue.
