On June 28, 2024, the Legislative Yuan passed the bill to modify its powers amidst over 10,000 people protesting against opaque parliamentary processes. The controversial legislation sparked the '青鳥 (Bluebirds)' movement, similar to the Sunflower Movement, with a surge of young adults taking to the streets to oppose the ruling party's parliamentary power adjustments. The excitement around the Bluebirds movement has also influenced the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), leading to increased female participation in DPP activities, including a significant rise in the number of young female participants, even attracting junior high school students. DPP's youth department reported a gender-balanced enrollment for their summer camp, including individuals with various backgrounds like volleyball enthusiasts, coffee lovers, and anime aficionados. The DPP aims to enhance the Bluebirds' engagement in public issues and democratic activities during the summer by organizing over 50 events across Taiwan within a three-month period, with a flagship camp called the National Youth Camp also scheduled for July 11 to July 13. The camp's agenda, themed 'Democracy Recharge Station', includes lectures, visits, and group discussions, encouraging participants to tackle vital issues and engage with the community through various roles within the government and the party. Notably, the camp will feature prominent speakers including President Lai Ching-te, Vice Premier Cheng Li-chun, DPP Party Secretary-General Lin You-chang, and more, addressing the importance of youth involvement in politics and public affairs.
