Rising Average Household Mortgage in Taiwan's Housing Market

Reported 11 months ago

The average amount of mortgage per household in Taiwan has seen a steady increase, reaching 768.8 million NTD in May, significantly higher than the pre-policy amount of 553.1 million NTD. Factors contributing to this rise include increased loan limits, longer loan periods with lower monthly payments, recent property price increases, and a preference for new properties among first-time buyers. The policy has led to a surge in loan applications and total loan amounts disbursed, with an estimated total of over 63,000 households benefiting from the policy by the end of June. However, recent adjustments aim to enhance oversight and prevent misuse of the program by imposing stricter eligibility criteria and post-loan monitoring measures.
