Rising Cases of Breast Cancer in Women Over 40: Over Half of Taiwanese Women Have Not Been Screened

Reported 8 months ago

The Ministry of Health and Welfare of Taiwan revealed in a press conference the latest top ten causes of death among Taiwanese people, with cancer remaining the top cause. Breast cancer ranks second among women. Taiwan sees over 15,000 cases of breast cancer annually, with about one woman diagnosed every 36 minutes and 7.3 women dying from the disease each day. Despite not being the leading cause of cancer death in women, the mortality rate for breast cancer is still on the rise. The screening rate for breast cancer in Taiwan has remained at only 3-4%, with over half of women never having been screened. Calls have been made to lower the age for free breast cancer screening to 40, as the number of cases in the 30-39 age group has increased significantly in recent years, prompting awareness and calls for action from legislators and health officials.
