As the COVID-19 situation worsens, hospitals are overwhelmed with patients, raising fears of an increase in hospital superbugs. The Infectious Diseases Society's director, Huang Jianxian, warns about the risk of antibiotic-resistant bacteria due to the necessity of antibiotics in treating secondary bacterial pneumonia post COVID-19 infection. With insufficient infection control manpower in hospitals, there are concerns about a recurrence of high superbug rates seen during the previous pandemic. To address the shortage of infection control personnel, Taiwan's National Health Insurance Administration has introduced a plan to incentivize proper care practices, allocating funds to improve infection control quality, and retain skilled professionals. This initiative aims to prevent the detrimental impacts of antibiotic resistance on both hospitals and communities.
