In Taiwan, there has been an increase in reported cases of syphilis and gonorrhea, with 9,941 and 8,257 cases respectively in 2023, showing a 2% and 3% rise compared to the previous year. The most significant increase was observed in the 15-24 age group and among women, primarily due to unsafe sexual behavior. Health authorities attribute the rise to the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions, leading to increased social interactions. Urging preventive measures, officials emphasize the importance of safe sex practices and regular screening to curb the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
