The illegal use of electronic cigarettes containing etizolam, also known as 'high-inducing vapes,' is becoming increasingly problematic in Taiwan. Medical professionals warn that besides the risk of addiction, severe withdrawal and physical and mental symptoms may also arise from using etizolam-infused vapes. Cases of potential poisoning or addiction from using these vapes have been appearing at emergency rooms and addiction clinics, with symptoms including mental confusion, irritability, disordered behavior, lack of concentration, muscle twitching, darkened skin, and impaired interpersonal functions. It is stressed that the government should evaluate the dangers of etizolam abuse, strengthen regulation, crack down on illegal vapes and their sources, and warn young people against peer pressure and trying unknown vape products.
