The actor shared how he felt when he overheard crew members saying he wasn't funny and how director Mike Nichols ultimately decided to end their collaboration. Despite the disappointment, De Niro praised Dreyfuss for his performance in the film, which went on to receive critical acclaim and an Academy Award for Dreyfuss.
