At the 2024 Tribeca Festival's De Niro Con, Robert De Niro reflected on being fired from the 1977 romantic comedy 'The Goodbye Girl,' where he shot for two weeks before being replaced by Richard Dreyfuss. The actor shared how he felt when he overheard crew members saying he wasn't funny and how director Mike Nichols ultimately decided to end their collaboration. Despite the disappointment, De Niro praised Dreyfuss for his performance in the film, which went on to receive critical acclaim and an Academy Award for Dreyfuss.
