Runner's Nightmare! Leg Pain While Running Might Indicate a Serious Issue, Doctor Warns of Potential Stress Fractures

Reported 8 months ago

With the increasing popularity of running, more people are experiencing leg pain during runs, which could be a sign of medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS) or shin splints – a common sports injury from overuse. Dr. Chen Yuhong, an orthopedic specialist at Asia East Hospital, explained that this condition is caused by muscle fatigue during excessive exercise, leading to decreased shock absorption capacity in the legs and subsequent inflammation and pain. If left untreated, it may progress to stress fractures. Treatment options include rest, anti-inflammatory drugs, physical therapy, shockwave therapy, and regenerative therapy to improve muscle tissue repair and recovery efficiency.
