In response to changes in the financial market and to boost the competitiveness of rural small and medium banks, Chinese authorities are accelerating the trend of mergers and consolidations. Within just seven days until June 21, at least 40 rural small and medium banks were absorbed, merged, or dissolved. It is expected that the number of banking financial institutions will further decrease by the end of the year. Various factors are driving this trend, including economic fluctuations, intensified market competition, regulatory environment changes, and the desire to enhance operational efficiency and risk management.
