Russia and North Korea Sign Strategic Partner Agreement - Mutual Support in Case of Attack

Reported 10 months ago

Russian President Putin, who arrived in North Korea's Pyongyang on June 20, 2024, stayed less than 24 hours before rushing to Hanoi, Vietnam. During his short visit, Putin and Kim Jong-un signed a 'comprehensive strategic partnership agreement,' pledging mutual defense and support in case of an attack on either party. The agreement includes political, trade, investment, and cultural aspects, as well as a provision for mutual defense, similar to Article 5 of the NATO treaty. The deepening relationship between Russia and North Korea has raised concerns in the democratic world, prompting calls for greater unity against authoritarian regimes like Russia, Iran, and China.
