Russia Plans to Mass-Produce Medium-Range Missiles Aiming at the United States

Reported 12 months ago

On June 28, 2024, Russian President Putin stated that Russia should restart the production of land-based missiles with a range of 500 to 5500 kilometers in response to and to counter new U.S. missile deployment actions. The missiles mentioned by Putin refer to those eliminated in large numbers by the U.S. and the Soviet Union based on the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) and have been out of production for many years. However, the U.S. exited the treaty first in 2019, citing Russia's non-compliance, leading to Putin's recent announcement. The U.S. has already begun producing medium-range missiles and conducting exercises in Denmark and the Philippines. As a response, Russia plans to restart the production of medium-range missiles as needed.
