On June 23, 2024, a terrorist attack occurred in the Republic of Dagestan in northern Caucasus, Russia. In the capital city of Makhachkala and the coastal city of Derbent, armed militants targeted two Orthodox churches and a Jewish synagogue, resulting in 9 deaths and 25 injuries. Among the deceased were an Orthodox priest and 7 police officers. Authorities suspect ISIS-K involvement and are conducting investigations. Previous attacks by ISIS-K in Moscow indicate a potential connection to this incident. Several police officers were killed in gun battles, and the masterminds behind the attack are under investigation.
