Microsoft reported that Russia has intensified an online disinformation campaign aimed at France and the upcoming Paris Olympics, featuring fake news websites and a documentary film to discredit the International Olympic Committee and suggest potential violence at the games. The campaign, attributed to Russian-backed entities known as Storm-1679 and Storm-1099, involved fabricated threats against Israelis attending the Olympics, with a feature-length film titled 'Olympics Has Fallen' created to criticize IOC leadership. Microsoft warned that the Kremlin's propaganda machine is likely to continue undermining the games as they approach, especially after the IOC's decision to allow Russian athletes to compete as neutrals.
