In a prison in southern Russia, a group of inmates related to Islamic State (IS) attempted to escape by taking two guards hostage. After a standoff, Russian special forces stormed the prison, resulting in the death of the hostage-takers and the successful rescue of the guards. Some of the convicts were reportedly linked to ISIS and had prior convictions under anti-terrorism laws. The incident brought back memories of the deadly terrorist attack by ISIS in a Moscow suburb earlier this year.
