The Russian rouble has strengthened beyond 81 against the U.S. dollar, marking a 40% increase since the start of 2025, buoyed by rising oil prices and decreasing geopolitical tensions. As of April 18, 2025, the rouble rose 1.5% in low trading volumes before the Orthodox Easter holiday. Despite U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's comments about stalled peace negotiations regarding Russia-Ukraine, the rouble remained resilient, also gaining marginally against the Chinese yuan.
