S&P Global Warns US Tariffs May Hinder Central European Growth

Reported about 13 hours ago

S&P Global Ratings has indicated that the recent proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump to impose 25% tariffs on EU imports could negatively impact growth prospects in Central Europe, particularly affecting countries like Czechia, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Romania due to their reliance on exports to Germany. While the direct trade exposure to the U.S. is limited, the tariffs could curb growth by around 0.5% of GDP on average in the region, compounding existing fiscal challenges amidst inflation and a downturn following the 2022 Ukraine invasion.
