On June 29, 2024, Wang Qianli was detained in a small room in Hong Kong due to having the same name and pronunciation as Chen Baiwei. The Mainland Affairs Council recently announced an increase in the travel warning level for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, from 'yellow' to 'orange', advising Taiwanese to refrain from traveling unless necessary. The incident involved a Taiwan man with the same name and birth year as former legislator Chen Baiwei, who was caught in a small room. This led to Chen Baiwei himself responding with an apology. The internet attention and responses gathered as the incident was revealed to be a case of mistaken identity, with both individuals having the same English name and birth year. Chen Baiwei apologized and advised individuals with the surname Chen to consider changing names for safety reasons.
