A South Korean appeals court has upheld the acquittal of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong on financial criminal charges related to a controversial merger between Samsung affiliates. The Seoul High Court dismissed an appeal by prosecutors who argued that the merger, which took place in 2015, unlawfully strengthened Lee's control over the company. Lee, who was previously imprisoned for related bribery charges, can still face an appeal in the Supreme Court, which would be the final decision on the matter.
