On June 10, 2024, at 6:57 pm in San Francisco, USA, Tzu Chi volunteers promoted vegetarianism by organizing cooking classes every two weeks at the Alice Griffith Apartments, which house residents of various ethnicities. In celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival in June, volunteers taught residents how to make vegetarian zongzi, a must-have food for Chinese celebrating the festival. Different from traditional zongzi, Taiwanese and Cantonese zongzi were demonstrated and compared by volunteers, fostering cross-cultural learning and interaction among residents. The cooking classes aim to bridge the gap between different ethnicities residing in the apartments, allowing residents to share their unique culinary traditions each month.
