Scam Resurgence at 'Guardian Mountain' | Lin-kou Police Crack Down on Fraudulent Drivers

Reported 8 months ago

On June 18, 2024, Lin-kou police arrested a fraudulent driver on the spot while he was withdrawing money on behalf of a scam group, seizing forged work permits, phones, cash vouchers, and other incriminating evidence. Taking advantage of the AI trend sweeping the globe, a scam group used the name of Taiwan's 'Guardian Mountain' TSMC to advertise false investments on Facebook, claiming to offer discounted purchases of TSMC treasury stocks. A woman in her 70s surnamed Lin from Lin-kou District, New Taipei City, joined the scam group's LINE group and downloaded a fake investment platform, eventually losing NT$1.2 million to a scam. The police arrested a 19-year-old driver named Zhang on June 13 for alleged fraud and money laundering, finding him with counterfeit work permits, phones, and cash vouchers. The police remind the public to be cautious of investment scams and seek verification from legitimate sources to avoid falling into such traps.
