A joint article by US-based scholars Ge Laiyi and Lin Biying published in the 'Foreign Affairs' journal on July 2 urges the US government to enhance Taiwan's defense resilience, encourage cross-strait dialogue, and establish trustworthy communication channels to prevent conflict. The scholars recommend that besides military steps and warnings, deterrence strategies also need active diplomacy. They suggest that Washington should encourage Beijing and Taipei to resume dialogue and emphasize the importance of establishing reliable back channels to clarify risks and prevent miscalculations, crucial for maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait region.
