Senior Officials Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu Involved in Corruption, Retired General: Structural Issues in Rocket Forces

According to a report from Xinhua News Agency on June 27, 2024, the Communist Party Central Political Bureau meeting today expelled the party membership of former Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu, who were suspected of bribery. Retired Lieutenant General Shuai Huamin stated that this is a structural corruption issue in the rocket forces, with more serious implications such as intelligence leaks, for which both individuals could face the death penalty. Shuai Huamin highlighted the corruption problems arising from the procurement of high-tech precision equipment in the rocket forces, emphasizing the severity of the situation due to lack of transparency and open bidding, leading to significant corruption issues. Additionally, he pointed out the seriousness of intelligence leaks in the rocket forces, noting that both Wei and Li could potentially be sentenced to death for their actions.
