On July 2, 2024, heavy rain alerts were issued by the Central Weather Bureau for 16 counties and cities, including areas north of Taoyuan, Nantou, and mountainous regions, warning of the possibility of localized heavy rain. Public should be cautious of lightning, strong gusts, as well as potential landslides, rockfalls, and rapid rises in river water levels. Alerts specifically mentioned Taipei City, New Taipei City, and Taoyuan City for immediate thunderstorm updates, emphasizing risks to outdoor activities and driving safety due to reduced visibility and potential flash flooding in downstream areas from swollen rivers. New Taipei City also issued disaster prevention advisories urging vigilance against flash floods due to increased chance of heavy rain.
