In the midst of China's super heavy monsoon season, severe rainstorms have struck the Yangtze River basin, affecting regions such as Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, and Anhui, especially heavily impacting Hunan. The water levels in the Mi'ro River in Pingjiang County, Hunan, reached the highest level in 70 years, leading to the destruction of over 2600 bridges and roads, collapse of nearly a thousand houses, and affecting over 360,000 people. The ancient Phoenix City in Hunan province, with a history dating back over 1300 years, is facing the menacing threat of heavy rain and rising floodwaters, with staff members nearly being engulfed by the swiftly rising waters. Rescue operations and preventive measures are being intensified across the affected provinces, and Premier Li Keqiang has conducted on-site disaster inspections, emphasizing the minimization of casualties and damages. Reports also detail incidents of vehicles being swept away, buildings collapsing, and businesses being flooded in the wake of the torrential rains.
