The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit is set to take place in Kazakhstan with members including Russia, China, Iran, and several Central Asian countries. Formed in 2001, the SCO aims to promote regional cooperation in areas like trade and security. With the addition of India, Pakistan, and Iran, SCO now represents 40% of the world's population and possesses significant economic resources. The organization primarily focuses on countering terrorism, separatism, and extremism, especially concerning China's concerns in Xinjiang. Despite being lauded as a non-Western force, the SCO's impact is considered relatively limited due to a lack of trust among its members in fostering significant achievements.
