The number of illegal immigrants from China attempting to enter the United States has increased tenfold over the past year, with 116 individuals recently deported back to China on a large aircraft, marking the first such deportation in nearly five years. In 2023 alone, US border enforcement authorities arrested over 37,000 illegal immigrants from China, a tenfold increase from 2022. The US Department of Homeland Security aims to continue collaborating with Beijing, enhance law enforcement efforts, crack down on irregular migration and human trafficking, as well as deport individuals without legal residency. Chinese immigrants have been using South America as a starting point to journey northward and enter the US via land routes, posing challenges and concerns for countries like Ecuador that have offered visa-free privileges in the past. As the issue of illegal Chinese migration escalates, the US government's efforts to deport these immigrants have faced resistance from Beijing, making it a contentious topic in the upcoming presidential elections and a point of contention between President Trump and hawkish Republicans.
