A Shigellosis outbreak has hit the US, with at least 162 people infected across 25 states and Washington D.C. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that contaminated cucumbers are the cause, resulting in 54 hospitalizations. The CDC has found Shigella bacteria in cucumber samples, triggering recalls and warnings as the outbreak's impact spreads to various states like Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, and New York. Shigellosis can cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and stomach pain, posing risks, especially for children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
