On July 1, 2024, a customer at a soy milk shop in Nanzih District, Kaohsiung, found a half-finger-sized cockroach in the sauce when preparing to pour it over his two buns. Despite reporting to the shop, the customer was only offered a refund for one bun with added soy sauce. The Kaohsiung Health Bureau inspected the shop and discovered multiple hygiene issues, including cockroach infestation and improper covering of sauces. The shop has voluntarily suspended operations for improvement, but the Health Bureau has issued a warning for corrections to be made by July 2, or face fines of over NT$60,000 according to food safety regulations.
