A fatal accident occurred in Wanhua District, Taipei City, where an elderly woman was run over by a turning cement mixer truck while crossing the street at the intersection of Kangding Road and Neijiang Street. Despite being rescued, the woman succumbed to her injuries. The incident, captured on video, showed the woman slowly crossing the pedestrian lane when the mixer truck, possibly due to a blind spot, ran her over without stopping, in a process that lasted less than 10 seconds. The driver, who was found to be driving under the influence, has been charged with public endangerment and negligent homicide. Firefighters struggled to lift the heavy truck in the rescue efforts, and the victim was pronounced dead at Taipei Medical University Hospital.
