In response to recent incidents of elderly individuals being denied seats on public transportation leading to altercations, Minister of Health and Welfare, Shih-chung Chou, stated that Priority Seats will not be abolished but discussed having similar 'Priority Seats' like in Japan to handle the situation better. Despite public debates on abolishing Priority Seats, Taipei Metro mentioned the limitation imposed by central regulations preventing unilateral cancellation, opting instead for stronger advocacy and education efforts. Minister Chou emphasized the necessity of Priority Seats under Taiwan's disability protection laws and expressed the intention to continue researching how to provide seats to those in need, drawing inspiration from Japan's system to meet the needs of individuals more effectively.
