A recent study from Stanford University reveals significant risks associated with AI therapy chatbots, highlighting potential stigmatization of certain mental health conditions and inappropriate responses. The research assessed five chatbots against human therapist guidelines, finding evidence of stigma, particularly towards alcohol dependence and schizophrenia. While AI tools may not yet be suitable replacements for human therapists, they could assist in various supportive roles within therapy.
