A Silicon Valley-backed initiative to create a green city for up to 400,000 people in the San Francisco Bay Area has qualified for the Nov. 5 ballot. The proposal, led by California Forever and backed by wealthy investors like Laurene Powell Jobs and Marc Andreessen, aims to develop urban areas on land currently zoned for agriculture between Travis Air Force Base and Rio Vista. Despite opposition from conservation groups and some officials, the project plans to provide housing, jobs, and amenities while investing heavily in the community.
